On Friday, July 17, 2026, Waseda University’s Tokorozawa Campus hosted an academic exchange event with National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU).

Three faculty members from the Department of Sport and Kinesiology at NTNU—Dr. Jun-Yu Ho, Chair of the Department, Dr. Ching-Feng Cheng, and Dr. On Kei Lei—visited Waseda University and participated in a joint seminar with faculty members and students.

The seminar began with an introduction to the Department of Sport and Kinesiology by Dr. Jun-Yu Ho. Faculty members from NTNU then presented their latest research. Dr. Ching-Feng Cheng introduced research on critical power, a scientific indicator that represents the maximum sustainable exercise intensity, while Dr. On Kei Lei presented studies on the effects of physical activity on metabolism and brain health.

Representing Waseda University, graduate students and research assistants from the laboratories of Associate Professor Kuniaki Hirayama, Professor Motoko Taguchi, and Professor Masashi Miyashita introduced their ongoing research projects. Their presentations covered factors determining deceleration during physical activity, resting metabolic rate in athletes, and pre-exercise precooling strategies.

The joint seminar provided a valuable opportunity for researchers and students from both universities to exchange ideas and deepen mutual understanding. It is expected that this event will lead to further collaborative research activities and enhanced student exchanges between Waseda University and National Taiwan Normal University.
