This is a standard example of Okitsu-style earthenware from the latter part of the early Jomon period that were found around Chiba and Ibaraki prefectures. Deep bowls are the most dominant type of such ware. This is a flat-edged bowl that expands widely toward the base. However, there are also many that extend in a somewhat straight manner from the bottom without any curves. Although rare, there are also some with a compressed, boat-like shape. The patterns on the body are composed of parallel grooves, and the nail-impression patterns made using the top ridges of shells and continuous impression patterns, which fill the gaps between the lines. Geometric patterns are depicted using the mark-erasing method.
