花岡萬舟（1895年- 1945年〔明治28年- 昭和20年〕）は戦争画家として知られ、広島の原爆投下によって亡くなったという。戦争とともに現れ、戦争とともに去った画家であった。本作は直接戦争を描いたものではないがプロパガンダに利用された作品といえる。近年、各地で戦争画が公開される機会が増えている。かつてあった歴史から目をそらすことなく、客観的な視線を保つ必要から、当館では今後の研究に資するため、萬舟作品を公開している。
Manshu Hanaoka (1895-1945) was known as a war artist. He is said to have died in the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. He was an artist who was brought to the foreground as well as disappeared with wars. Although this work does not directly depict a war scene, it was used for war-time propaganda. War paintings are being shown more often in recent years. Aizu Museum shows the works by Manshu because there is a need to maintain an objective perspective without ignoring the past, and the works contributes to future research.
