WISH Domestic Study Trip -Shizuoka and Kanagawa prefecture- (May 2019)

On May 18th-19th, 2days study trip was held at Mishima-city, Shizuoka prefecture and Yugawara-town Kanagawa prefecture.
32 WISH resdients participated in this trip to learn about “Town Development”.
What kind of impression they have got after visiting those succeeded areas in its field?

We participated in the short trip to learn about environmental conservation and town development, and visited Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture and Yugawara Town, Kanagawa Prefecture.

Mishima is a region that has cleaned up sewage canals and succeeded in taking advantage of environmental protection, incorporating the Groundwork method–a method originated in Britain. I was personally impressed by the beauty of nature as I was able to witness the clear waters of the area where precious water buttercups and fireflies flourish. Moreover, Yugawara Town, famous for its hot spring, has made efforts to value nature and old wooden buildings, which is now being utilized for town development. We felt the historical value in how the antique town was revitalized.

From the talk session by the representatives, we learned how difficult it is to create a town from scratch. The fact that they made persistent efforts to gain the understanding and cooperation of the local residents, and how they believed in themselves in making their dream come true, was truly astonishing.

These training camps in our dorm allow you to actually witness the scene with your own eyes, and to communicate with experts and the locals, which you cannot experience in a university lecture. Furthermore, you can interact and get to know other WISH residents with various backgrounds and perspectives. We have a good training experience at WISH, and we encourage you to join us.
