Welcome to Mawatari Lab!

Name: WANG Ruying
Grade & Program: 1st Year, Doctoral program

Research Focus

Mawatari Lab focuses on innovative micro- and nanofluidic technologies to address chemical and biological challenges across environmental, medical, and biological fields.

Our research integrates IoT, big data, and advanced devices for applications like bio-information monitoring, virus detection, and fluidic IoT systems. Key areas include nanoscale solution chemistry, cellular nano-solution devices, and single-cell analysis.

Mawatari Lab also explores cost-effective device development, drone-based sampling, and data-driven technologies for societal implementation.

Our work bridges macro- and microworlds for impactful real-world applications.

The specific research areas include:

  • Chemical information fluidic IoT (environment, agriculture, fishery, etc.)
  • Bio information fluidic IoT (virus, bacteria, exosome, etc)
  • Medical information fluidic IoT (blood, cell, etc.)
  • Macroworld-to-microworld conversion liquid interface
  • Sampling devices using mobile devices as drone
  • Low-cost device and peripheral instrument production and commercialization
  • Device information technology for fluidic IoT (microcomputer, image recognition, data analysis, wireless communication)
  • Big data analysis
  • Basic science devices for liquids in ultrasmall space: Nanofluidics
    • Nano space solution chemistry and structural chemistry
    • Cellular nano solution chemistry (cellular-space mimetic device) and life science
    • Nano optofluidics
    • Single-cell handling and analysis

Laboratory Activities

Mawatari Lab currently consists of two researchers (Mr. Hidekatsu Tazawa and Ryoichi Ohta), one secretary (Hiroko Kuga), four PhD students, eleven master’s students, and one undergraduate student.

Professor Mawatari will arrange the group meeting schedule and the reporting personnel (3-4 people for each group meeting) for each weekly group meeting at the beginning of the semester. We will report according to the group meeting schedule. Weekly group meetings are held on Friday afternoons, during which Prof. Mawatari provides detailed feedback and guidance on student presentations. These meetings alternate between research updates and literature reviews, encouraging students to stay aligned with global scientific advancements and deepen their understanding of their fields.

Mawatari Lab also cooperates with many domestic and foreign companies and well-known universities such as the University of Tokyo, Tsinghua University, and Vietnam National University, providing students with more diversified and more practical guidance for their research.

In such an interdisciplinary laboratory, we attract students from various academic backgrounds, such as chemistry, electronic engineering, and information engineering. Beyond academics, the lab fosters camaraderie through social activities like dinners, karaoke, gaming, and trips. New students are warmly welcomed with orientation events, ensuring a smooth transition into our lab.

If you’re interested in our research, don’t hesitate—apply and join us at Mawatari Lab!
