Admissions in General

Applicants to the master’s program do not need to contact the desired faculty advisor before applying.
Applicants to the doctoral program need to contact the desired faculty advisor and obtain consent before applying.

Yes, you do. Fill a valid email address except the one on a mobile. Hotmail ,Gmail and the email in your current school are okay as long as it’s activated. IPS barely phones to, but contacts with an applicant through emails to make sure forms before they are examined.

No, it isn’t. You have one more option, Nishiwaseda Campus (西早稲田), Waseda university in Tokyo. You choose and declare either of them when applying for an examination.

Yes, it is. As long as you like, but you can’t take multiple application categories at the same time.

No, they are not available to the public.

The statement of preferences is for reference only and will not influence your opportunities after admission.

The Admissions Office makes an overall judgment based on the submitted research plan and responses to interview questions.

You may apply if your application complies with the university’s regulations and you are deemed qualified for admission to IPS. For details, please consult the “Qualifications for Application” section of the Admission Guide. If you then have any questions, please inquire with the Admissions Office.

It is possible to apply even if your major at the undergraduate school is different from the research you would like to conduct at IPS.

IPS is primarily an engineering-focused institution, but many students from liberal arts backgrounds also enter to study information science or management engineering. While IPS accepts a diverse range of students from both domestic and international backgrounds, some research labs may require strong mathematical skills. Please contact the faculty member in charge of the research lab directly via email to inquire about specific requirements.

Application Documents

Please submit a certificate of expected graduation and an academic transcript of records at the time of application. Please submit the final certificate at the time of admission.

In the case that you have not presented or published papers, nor have any publications, a job description related to your research or desired research would be acceptable.

Yes, if you wish to reapply, you must submit all required documents again. Previously submitted documents cannot be reused.

We do not provide individual notifications regarding the arrival of documents. Please use the tracking number provided at the time of shipment to check the delivery status on your own.

The “Receive Status” will only be updated to “Received” if there are no deficiencies in both the mailed documents and the information entered on TAO. If there are any deficiencies, the status will be updated after all issues have been resolved.
Please note that we review the documents in the order they are received, so it may take some time for the status to be reflected. Thank you for your understanding.

We do not provide individual confirmation of submitted documents. Please carefully review the “Application procedure” section and the “Instructions for application and documents to be submitted ” in the Application Guide to ensure everything is prepared correctly.

Scholarships

If you would like to apply for the Japanese government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) scholarship, please inquire at the Japanese Embassy or Consulate General in your country about details.

Please refer to ‘Achievement of adopted scholarship’ of last year. Note, however, that the number and variety of scholarships and the rate of recipients will differ from year to year.

Those who wish to be awarded scholarships are required to complete the appropriate procedures for registration. Pertaining to scholarships which require nomination by the university, IPS nominates candidates based on their academic performance and financial situation. In each case, applicants are requested to submit an application and necessary documents. (Japanese and permanent resident foreigners only).
In addition to the above-mentioned scholarships, there are scholarships students can directly apply for. In each case, the information is posted on the IPS bulletin board. The information for international students is also posted on the IPS bulletin board and the bulletin board of the Center for International Education (international students only). Applicants must complete the necessary procedures.

Additionally, there are some scholarships which can be applied before admission.

Courses and Curriculum

Most of the classes at IPS are held in both English and Japanese.

In the event that the change is deemed just and necessary, it may be approved.

IPS gives classes from the 1st period (starting at 8:50 am) to the 6th period (from 18:55 to 20:35). A working person should select classes in the 6th period and on Saturdays, and also one or two weekdays. It will be necessary to make out your registration schedule according to the IPS timetable and the curriculum. If you choose to study while continuing to work, your motivation and commitment, and your employer’s understanding, will be essential. Please consider these factors carefully before applying.

Classes are available from Monday to Saturday. The first period starts at 8:50 in the morning. The last period starts at 18:55 and finishes at 20:35.

Others

Yes, it does. IPS sets school information session and open days several times in a year. Check the schedule on the page. You will prepare a form to join.

Basically, classes and research supervision take place during the daytime on weekdays.
The balance between study and work largely depends on your employer’s decision, so please consult with your employer first and then with your desired faculty advisor.

International students can apply to stay in the “Kitakyushu Science and Research Park International Student Dormitory” or the “Waseda Dormitory,” both located within the Kitakyushu Science and Research Park, or in privately-leased dormitories. The monthly rent ranges from JPY 12,500 to JPY 19,100, depending on the resident’s income from the previous year. Additionally, residents are responsible for their own utility costs, including water, electricity, and internet fees. Application forms will be sent to all international students along with the admission letter. If you wish to apply for dormitory accommodation, please submit the form together with your enrollment documents.
