Mr. WANG, Yuchen

At Waseda IPS, dozens of laboratories cover a wide range of engineering fields, with research topics closely aligned with the latest advancements in technology worldwide. IPS provides an excellent research environment, offering the necessary facilities and equipment to support cutting-edge studies. This makes IPS an ideal place for students who are ambitious about pushing the boundaries of advanced technology in their fields. In my lab, we focus on various image and video information systems, along with related system technologies. Our research spans areas such as computer vision, deep learning, and hardware-friendly algorithm design. We hold weekly lab meetings and seminars, and every month, we have opportunities to interact with professors from overseas or researchers from leading Japanese companies. These discussions often inspire us to approach problems from different perspectives, significantly enriching our research experience.

The Graduate School of Information, Production and Systems (IPS) features a wide range of labs and an environment that allows you to exhaustively study what you want. In the Community Computing Lab, research is conducted on a wide range of topics, including VLM (Vision-Language Models), AR (Augmented Reality), and robotics. Regularly held meetings provide a valuable opportunity for engaging in lively discussions with laboratory members and your professor, fostering new ideas and connections. Ms. KIMURA, Rino

Waseda University’s Graduate School of Information, Production and Systems (IPS) has labs covering a wide range of specialties, allowing students to research topics that interest them. It has a diverse student body with a variety of nationalities and ages, so you are exposed to diverse worldviews while studying there. Besides conducting research, you can also study a variety of fields at IPS. You can gain more in-depth knowledge of the fields that interest you by proactively utilizing Waseda University programs like the Global Education Center and participating in advanced courses by professors of different labs. In my lab we research audio signal processing. We’re working towards the goal of enabling computers to distinguish people’s voices in a crowd in the same way that humans can. Not only can you discuss with the professor and other lab members, but you can also connect with the rest of the world by presenting research results at international academic conferences and participating in joint research projects with companies. Utilizing IPS’s environment in this way allows me to pursue my interests and lead an enriching university life.

My experience in Waseda IPS has been one of the most memorable ones in my academic life. Even though I was uncertain of suspending my professional career, I have found IPS to be very helpful with my research objectives. The courses, the facilities, and faculty members have provided me the resources that I need to contribute in the industry-academia community. In the Smart Industry Laboratory, we work on the architecture, development, and optimization of the different production management strategies. I am currently researching on scheduling optimization with probabilistic constraints. I hopefully can continue contributing to IPS and help grow the community with students from all around the world.

Entering a master’s program can be a frightening, challenging experience, but I have found IPS to be incredibly helpful, resourceful, and conducive to my studies. When I selected IPS for my graduate school, I was uncertain of what my future in a graduate program would be and what I wanted to study. However, IPS presented plenty of opportunities to get to know the professors and areas of study so that I was able to make an educated decision of what lab/field to enter. Since selecting Information Architecture – Example-based machine translation/NLP laboratory, I have never once regretted it. I love researching NLP, spending time with my fellow master’s students, and learning more under the guidance of IPS’s masterful professors. I am truly thankful to attend IPS, and I hope to bring a positive image to this university for years to come.

Graduate School of Information, Production and Systems (IPS), Waseda University has a large number of students from various background. We can work hard on our research activities while engaging in mutual friendly competition with fellow students from different cultures who may hold vastly different values. IPS consists of three fields: Information Architecture, Production Systems and Integrated Systems. One of the advantages at IPS is that students may choose a research suoject in a field of interest to them. What’s more, significant R&D is conducted m collaboration with other local universities, research institutes, companies, and similar organizations. I belong to Biomedical Engineering Laboratory, where we work on the medical application of light and radiation technology. Seminars are held regularly in the laboratory, with the student able to gain a better understanding of his or her research area through discussions with supervisors and laboratory members. The students should thus have no problem finding a suitable research area at IPS, where research opportunities exist in a wide range of fields.

Waseda IPS provides a great platform to carry out research. Advanced facilities are available here and you can easily access them and conduct your research work. There are diversified research programs and topics you can choose to work on according to your interests. The research topics in my laboratory are cEnrolled in the on natural language processing, including text classification, sentiment analysis, document summarization and key phrase extraction. Regular group meetings provide us the chance to communicate and discuss with our supervisor and lab members. We are also encouraged to take part in academic forums and international conferences, through which we can exchange ideas with scholars all over the world, get different perspectives and have a deeper insight into our own subjects.

The Graduate School of Information, Production and Systems at Waseda University (IPS) has a large number of students from various nationalities and backgrounds, who work hard to improve their academic skills. In IPS, there are three fields of study: Information Architecture, Production Systems, and Integrated Systems, which enable students to conduct research in a wide range of technological fields. In addition, most of the lectures can be taken in English or Japanese, which is a favorable environment for international students who want to learn Japanese and Japanese who want to learn English. In addition, through regular seminars held in the laboratory, I can learn how to share information in the laboratory, and obtain the basic skills of making presentations. Therefore, I can devote myself to my research in a fulfilling environment. This is just an example, but I believe that IPS enables you to work on solving social issues through research, and that you will be able to grow into a global human resource that society needs by taking initiative and pursuing your interests.

In this era of evolving knowledge, information, and an increased competition worldwide it fortunate to study in a school where you would be equipped with all the necessities to play around. I found that Waseda University is the most conducive destinations to perform high quality and a state-of-the-art research. Furthermore, IPS is a hub of brilliant and upbeat students and staff which focuses on breakthrough technologies with irreplaceable academic and industrial significance. With international students of different background and well-established research laboratories coupled with knowledgeable and hardworking professors; IPS is the right place where novel ideas originate and flourish.Our lab students usually focus on the thematic area of AI and design of Intelligent algorithms to cater the needs of emerging smart industries. Waseda IPS, as an international campus, is extremely inclusive. Everyone here is very friendly and it’s a pleasure to get along. The research fields involved in IPS are also very broad, and you can freely choose the direction you are interested in. At the same time, IPS will provide corresponding courses to help students learn the most basic knowledge. In the follow-up research, you can discuss research topics with professors and classmates. When encountering problems, they will do their best to help. The main research field of our laboratory is MEMS (Micro-electro-mechanical system), among which the main research directions are: high sensitivity sensors, MEMS-IC systems and MEMS application systems. If you are also interested in MEMS, you are very welcome.

IPS is a great place to pursue a higher education and to enjoy life in Japan.During my study in IPS, I chose my field of research amongst laboratories. I acquired professional knowledge by attending lectures from different fields, such as information architecture, production systems and integrated systems. This interdisciplinary experience gave me illuminating insights to solve problems from wider dimensions. I also enjoy exchanging ideas with people from different cultural and academic backgrounds. In my second year, I participated in international conferences and visited companies with my supervising professor’s wholehearted support.

At IPS, Waseda Graduate school, there are many students from different nationalities and study fields since IPS provides such a high variety of course materials and laboratories as it shows on their name ‘Graduate school of Information, Production and System’. There are many laboratories which is focusing in different fields, from mechanical to electrical and computer science. Plus the professors are kind and supportive. You can consult your idea and vision together with them for the best result of your study. IPS also provides computer room and library within the campus building which is really comfortable for the student to use freely.

Students from different countries with diverse backgrounds are gathered at Kitakyushu campus, make IPS energetic. IPS provides a wide range of courses covering various fields and we can take any course we want. Studying in such kind of environment helps me broaden my horizons, stay curious and creative. Students in my laboratory engage in various research topics including Approximate Computing, Random Forest Acceleration, Majority-based Logic Synthesis, CNN Acceleration and Quantum Annealing. Surrounded by friendly and excellent lab members, I can always be inspired by their unique viewpoints. Our supervisor always gives us invaluable guidance and constant support throughout our research, creates an ideal researching environment for us in our laboratory.

Many foreign exchange students are enrolled at this campus, which provides a global educational environment where I can work alongside students with different cultures and viewpoints. At times, I am stimulated by their unique ideas, and I can feel my own viewpoint expanding. In addition, because IPS has wide range of technical fields to study, it is possible to acquire knowledge beyond the boundaries of one’s field. There are ample research facilities, so it is possible to develop new academic fields and fusion research, depending on the enthusiasm of the students. In conclusion, I am strongly convinced that IPS is the site where the next generation of innovation will be born.

Besides, the joint project with the company in IPS provides us with the opportunity to apply sophisticated and novel theoretical knowledge to the real-world industry. In our laboratory, we mainly focus on designs of intelligent algorithms and methods to solve practical issues in the industry. The professor’s guidance and research experience in IPS are priceless for our self-development and useful for our future careers.

In our laboratory, we mainly focus on the development of Electric Vehicles and Self Driving Car technology to tackle the challenges being faced by growing population of elderly people in Japan.
