The Report of the18th International Collaboration Symposium on IPS

Summary

The 18h International collaborative Symposium on Information, Production and Systems (ISIPS 2024) was held in a face-to-face format at Waseda University Graduate school of IPS from Thursday 7th to Friday 8th November 2024.

There were 274 participants of teachers, researchers and students from 10 universities of overseas (China and Taiwan) and 6 universities including IPS, 2 institutes of technology and 2 institutes from Japan. They presented their leading edge research outputs, outcome of collaborated research project, and exchanged hot discussion among participants.

On the first day, a laboratory tour of the IPS was set. About 25 participants, mainly from abroad, were divided into two groups and each group visited three laboratories. The participants listened attentively to explanations of research in robotics, bioelectronics, image processing, smart factories and terahertz devices/systems.

In the morning of the second day, in the main hall of the conference center of the Kitakyushu Science and Research Park, the opening address was given by Prof. Arakawa, Dean of IPS, followed by the greetings from Dr. Matsunaga, Board chairman of Kitakyushu Foundation for the Advancement of Industry, Science and Technology (FAIS). Four keynote speeches were delivered by Prof. Ting-Chi WANG of National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan), Prof. Zhihui LYU of Fudan University, Prof. Jing-Ming LIN of Tsing Hua University and Prof. Po-Hung CHEN of National Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University (Taiwan). In addition, Industrial session was set up with lectures by Mr. Shinkazu Matsumoto of O2 Partners Inc. and Mr. Rikizo Morita of Mishima OA System. During lunchtime, a poster session was held in the conference lobby, where refreshments were served at the same time. A total of 28 posters presented their research in the general category posters and the technical college category posters, and there was a lively discussion for one and a half hours.

In the afternoon of the second day, four thematic sessions were held in parallel session format at the IPS building. There were 6 invited talks and 19 contributed presentations on the following 4 themes, and each session was attended by a large number of audience members who engaged in active question and answer sessions.

Theme A: Algorithms and Software Tools for Electronic Design Automation

Theme B: Advanced AI, Large Models and Their Security Technologies

Theme C: Bio-related state-of-the-art technologies: biodevice, robot, instrument, and AI technologies

Theme D: Energy harvesting and low power analog circuits and systems

At the closing ceremony held after finishing sessions on the second day, awards were presented for the best presentation in each session and some encouragement.
