東アジアにおける民主主義の多様性研究部会(V-Dem East Asia Regional Center)は、世界最大規模の民主主義測定・分析プロジェクトであるV-Dem研究所(スウェーデン・ヨーテボリ大学)の東アジア地域拠点として、V-Demデータをはじめとする比較政治データを活用し、東アジア・東南アジアにおける民主主義の現状について、実証的かつデータ駆動型の研究を推進します。

本部会の活動は主に二つの柱からなります。第一に、民主主義の後退(democratic backsliding)、政治的分極化、偽情報、選挙の公正性、体制移行といった、地域が直面する重要な課題に関する実証研究を実施・支援します。第ニに、ワークショップ、講演会、共同研究などを通じて、国際的なV-Dem研究コミュニティと日本の研究者・学生・政策実務家をつなぐ架け橋としての役割を果たします。
これらの活動を通じて、本部会はアジアにおける民主主義研究の実証的基盤を強化するとともに、最先端の比較データを用いて民主主義の制度を分析できる次世代の研究者の育成を目指します。

The V-Dem East Asia Regional Center is a research hub for the empirical study of democracy in East and Southeast Asia. Drawing on the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) dataset — one of the world’s most comprehensive resources for the comparative analysis of democracy — together with other cross-national and survey data, the Center promotes rigorous, data-driven research on the state and trajectory of democracy in the region.

Our activities focus on two areas. First, we conduct and support empirical research on pressing questions facing East and Southeast Asia, including democratic backsliding, political polarization, disinformation, electoral integrity, and regime transitions. Second, we serve as a bridge between the international V-Dem research community and scholars, students, and policymakers in Japan, through workshops, lectures, data-use seminars, and collaborative projects.

Through these activities, the Center aims to deepen our understanding of democratic development in Asia and to foster a new generation of scholars equipped to analyze democratic institutions and processes with cutting-edge comparative data.
