本部会では、変動する世界秩序のなかで重要性を増す東南アジア地域について、政治・経済・社会の諸側面から多角的な理解を進める。米中対立の深化、経済のグローバル化と分断、民主主義の後退と権威主義の持続、急速な経済発展と格差の拡大など、東南アジアは現代世界の主要な課題が交錯する地域である。本部会は、セミナー、ワークショップ、シンポジウムなどの開催を通じて、国内外の研究者との研究交流を促進し、地域の実態に根ざした知見の蓄積と発信を行うとともに、早稲田大学における東南アジア研究の拠点形成をめざす。

This research group seeks to advance a multifaceted understanding of Southeast Asia—a region of growing importance in a changing world order—across its political, economic, and social dimensions. Southeast Asia today stands at the crossroads of the major challenges of our time: the deepening US–China rivalry, economic globalization and fragmentation, democratic backsliding and authoritarian persistence, and rapid growth accompanied by widening inequality. Through seminars, workshops, and symposia, the group will foster scholarly exchange with researchers in Japan and abroad, accumulate and disseminate knowledge grounded in the realities of the region, and aim to establish a hub for Southeast Asian studies at Waseda University.
