| 要旨 | This paper quantifies the monetary value of agency frictions in Japanese IPO underwriting by estimating a structural principal-agent model using data from 2000 to 2022. It reveals that information rents and moral hazard significantly inflate compensation, acting as a rational insurance premium against the massive potential losses associated with underwriter shirking. Additionally, the analysis provides structural evidence supporting the universal banking hypothesis, showing that bank-affiliated underwriters face substantially lower effort costs compared to independent firms. |
