 JAPANESE LANGUAGE PROGRAM（JLP）
 Japanese Language Courses for “Non-degree Students” in Undergraduate or Graduate Schools at Waseda University

** [Important Notice] For those who need to apply for a status of residence **

There is an important notice regarding applications related to status of residence. Please make sure to check the following documents before application.

** Japan Pre-Entry Tuberculosis Screening **

Applicants who hold nationality from the Philippines / Vietnam / Indonesia / Nepal / Myanmar / China are required to submit the “Tuberculosis (TB) Clearance Certificate” in addition to the normal Certificate of Eligibility (COE) application documents to prove that you are not infected with TB. The date this rule takes effect differs depending on your nationality, so please be sure to check the details from the following document if you are eligible.

Applicants for this program MUST apply through online. Please follow the instruction below and complete the Online Application during the registration period. You can access the Online Application page during the application period only.

Note

Please note that you are not considered as an applicant by completing the online application only. Please do not miss the payment of screening fee. *except for currently enrolled students or applicants eligible to be exempted from payment.

Regarding Question 5-2 of the Study Plan for Japanese Language Program at Waseda University in Chapter 5, “Study Plan for Japanese Language Program at Waseda University,” of the Sample Application Form for Currently Enrolled Japanese Language Program (JLP) Students, the following wording was revised on September 24, 2025.
※Please describe what you have done and learned since the program began, the areas in which you have grown, as well as your shortcomings and the areas where you still need improvement.

Note

Only currently enrolled JLP students need to apply through “Online Application Form (for Currently Enrolled JLP Students)”.
Please submit all the documents through this online form. ※In PDF format
You cannot save the data. If you cannot finish it at one time, you need to start again from the beginning.
Amount of time required：45-60 minutes ※Please prepare all the documents and answers in advance.
When you finish all the questions, please check your information again before you click “保存(SAVE)” button to complete the registration.
You will not complete online application until you click “保存（SAVE）” button.

If you would like to apply for JLP as an exchange student, please visit CIE（Center for International Education） website for further information.
If you would like to apply for JLP as a MEXT (Japanese Government) Scholarship student, please visit MEXT website or the Japanese Embassy in your country for further information.

This admission is only for undergraduate and graduate students (Non-degree) of Waseda University who wish to be enrolled in Japanese language courses.

*Exchange students and MEXT Scholarship students do not need to apply.
*Be sure to check with your undergraduate/graduate school in advance to see if you need to apply.
