In 2007, Waseda University launched the “Support-Project for Academic Affairs” as a mechanism for the Academic Affairs Division, Human Resources Division, and Information Planning Division to work together to support university-wide academic affairs. The Waseda Portal Office is responsible for the implementation of academic affairs support with the cooperation of Waseda University Academic Solutions (WAS), a university-affiliated company.
The role of the Academic Affairs Support Promotion Project is to establish a system to provide constant support to academic affairs staff in the Academic Senate and other academic departments, and to develop a system that enables full-time staff to focus on tasks such as “improving student services,” “strengthening educational and research support functions,” and “supporting the Academic Senate Executive Office.
Among the administrative tasks of academic affairs, such as course distribution, course registration, and grade processing, data setup and data processing using the system are being consolidated and standardized in the Waseda Portal Office.
Through this initiative, we aim to transform the Waseda Portal Office into a staff organization that contributes to education, research, and university management in an autonomous and creative manner, while accumulating know-how related to academic affairs and expanding the areas subject to analysis and support.
The following are some examples of the benefits of the program:
“Reduction of workload,” “Promotion of standardization and documentation of work,” “Promotion of staff understanding of work,” “Fostering motivation for work improvement,” and “Contribution to staff human resource development and improvement of organizational strength”.
