[Top 5 selected by reader monitors] 2024 Spring semester (June) -From Readers

Waseda Weekly publishes a variety of articles, including "Focus," which features various systems and facilities on campus, events, and points to note; "People," which introduces students who are active both on and off campus; and articles about classes, Professor, Alumnus and student club who are active in various fields, and even topics ranging from studying abroad to everyday concerns.

We have also introduced a Waseda University student reader monitor system, where articles are evaluated every week. Each article is rated from 1 to 5 stars, and we receive feedback, both good and bad, which we use to create better articles. Here we will introduce the articles published between June 3rd and June 21st, 2024, in order of highest reader monitor ratings, along with the actual comments received!

1. [Focus] People working on Waseda's campus: The diverse faces supporting the university (Published June 10, 2024)

This was my favorite article this year! I've always wanted to express my gratitude to the people who work at Waseda University and support my student life, but I was unsure of how to approach them. Thanks to the job introduction this time, I now have the confidence to say thank you for always doing ____! I also think that interviews like this with working adults, especially those who are not company employees or civil servants, which are typical of Waseda students, are valuable. I hope they continue to do more. (3rd year, School of Education)

I noticed it, but I think I was pretending not to notice it. When you introduce them like this, I think that the eye will be able to see them as a person, not just as a scene, and think, "Oh, that's the person in the article," or, "I'm glad that this person is always smiling." It was a very good article. Thank you very much (2nd year student School of Social Sciences)

2. [Lectures by Experts] What is a "place" that leads to mental health? Thinking about a livable society with Professor Abiru (Published June 5, 2024)

I was encouraged by the clear statement that there is no right answer in life. I have a friend who is struggling with this issue, so I would like to recommend this article to him (1st year student, School of Creative Science and Engineering)

I have had the experience of being told "That's because you're from Waseda" on a number of occasions. I wanted to find my own axis without being distracted by the name of the school or the public's opinion. I also learned for the first time that there is such a field in education (2nd year School of Human Sciences)

3. [Alumni Interviews] "silent" and "Umi no Hajimari" producer Murase Ken: "Waseda is the origin of my creative drive!" (Released June 7, 2024)

I really liked the drama "silent" and looked forward to watching it every week, and I'm already looking forward to the next one. However, I didn't know that the producer had a connection to Waseda. I was shocked to find out that someone I felt was so far away wasn't actually that far away (2nd year School of Law)

The words "It's because I'm not a genius that I can increase the number of people I can rely on" really struck me. I'm not a genius either, but I didn't have much courage to rely on others. But when I heard these words, I realized that people are destined to live by helping each other. I want to increase the number of people I can rely on as I move forward in my career (4th year School of Sport Sciences)

4. [Information] Shin Sobue and Dominic Chen talk about weekly advertising: "It's great to be confusing!" (Published on June 13, 2024)

The talk about "fixed-point observation of everyday life" really struck a chord with me. I thought it was a wonderful idea to take a fresh look at things that we don't even think about and take for granted, to become aware of our own values, and thereby to confirm our existence. I will also try to live my daily life with this awareness and increase my awareness of small things (1st year School of Culture, Media and Society)

I always see it when I go to Waseda Station and I wondered why it has an odd number like 59 years since publication, but I realized that even that is an eye-catching design. I thought it would be interesting to look at this advertisement from various perspectives from now on (1st year School of Law)

5. [Focus] Waseda University graduate actor Shinya Kote appears! Welcome to the Waseda Theater Experience Tour (released June 17, 2024)

As a student who is far removed from theater, I realized that Waseda has a culture of theater because there are so many theater-related facilities. Waseda is certainly diverse, but because of that diversity and the large number of students, I felt that I only knew about my own community (2nd year School of Culture, Media and Society Society)

I learned for the first time that Kote-san was a member of a drama student club at Waseda University. I was amazed to hear him refer to the area behind Okuma Auditorium as "Kumaura" and talk about his memories with Masato Sakai. I love the Theater Museum and I think it would be great if more people came here. (1st year master's student, Japanese Language Studies)
