The locale was Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. To complete the mission above, WISH Award Students took a survey, analized its result and came up with their original proposal. At the end, each group gave a presentation to Managers of Panasonic in English. The key point of this training was how much the group could understands the mission and how logically they could think when making proposal. This internship must have been challenging for students, but let’s find out how it all went!
Skills I gained through SI Award Training
During my experience in the six-day SI Award Program held in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, not only was I given a wonderful opportunity to participate in an internship with Panasonic Malaysia, but I also learned the importance of communication.
Our task was to come up with a branding idea to attract young Malaysian consumers of Panasonic products. With our pre-assigned groups, we set foot on a local college campus to collect data by interviewing students and devised proposals, which were evaluated and given feedback by our supervisors. Their comments were strict and critical but it always motivated us to work harder and do our best.
Communication was one of the most challenging obstacles of this program because misunderstandings and confusion deter the group from reaching its goal. Especially because members in my group consisted of people from diverse backgrounds, the manner in which everyone approached the topic was different. Hence, it was important that each member understood, clarified, and at times made compromises to achieve the underlying goal.
As I reflect on the trip, I have a stronger consciousness to communicate effectively with my group members and will definitely utilize these new skills that I have acquired in prospective projects. Lastly, I would like to thank Residence Life Center (RLC) for granting us wonderful experiences as this and supporting our growth.
