Mission “Make a business plan for a service or product that Hong Kong University students would use for job-hunting!”

WISH award students were assigned the mission of making a busines plan for a service or product that Hong Kong University students would use for job-hunting. The locale was Hong Kong. Students had questionnaires and analyzed actual needs in the Hong Kong University. It will be interesting to see how residents made out  an atractive plan.

An opportunity to  practice what the students have learned in the SI programs.

“Make a business plan for a service or product that Hong Kong University students would use for job-hunting.”; This was our mission. Not only did we have to write a plan that would fulfill the needs of the students, but also to consider the sustainability of the business plan and its contribution to the society as well. Since we had no prior knowledge nor experience in job hunting related to Hong Kong, we first started from constructing hypothesis in conceivable hardships for the students, and then created plans that would help to overcome these difficulties. Brainstorming novel ideas was very challenging and prevented our ideas to develop further, so we stopped and tried to read the guide book of Hong Kong as a refresher. It actually turned out to help us come up with many satisfactory ideas. I realized that sometimes people get too caught up in creating a complete and perfect image of the plan from the beginning, which could appear to be haunting. I learned to start from simple ideas and develop them from there. The process went much smoother and was enjoyable using the latter method. After arriving in Hong Kong, we focused on interviewing HKU students about the reality and discords they would face during job huntings, rather than just presenting our business plans and getting feedbacks. Therefore, we were able to deepen our understandings of their situations and finalize a more comprehensive and feasible business plan. Along with helping the students obtaining suitable working environment through our project, working with such great teammates also helped me visualize what I would desire as my ideal working environment. I hope to apply and expand the communication skills and ways of thinking learned through this experience in the future.
