Learning from valuable experience

Over the spring break, I had the special opportunity to participate in a training offered by WISH in Osaka. At the training, I worked as one of the staff members in a large event called the Japan’s Girls Expo. I worked at one of the booths placed at the event where the guests had to fill out a survey in order to participate in a lottery.
Although the booth went well overall, there were a few problems that I faced. First, was that the lottery did not go as planned and there were fewer guests than expected. The day before the event, my peers and I organized the lottery items and decided which items to put out during certain hours, but in the end, we ignored our plan and gave out prizes according to the flow of that day.
Another problem I faced was that I found it very hard to communicate in Japanese sometimes. My Japanese skills are not good compared to native speakers so there were miscommunications with the staff members and the guests, however, with the great level of teamwork among the staff and peers, we were able to overcome the day without major problems. Also, through this training, I felt that there were many anticipation towards Waseda students in the future, so I would like to study Japanese further and mature as a person to be able to meet those expectations and carry on the honor as a Waseda student.
