Cultivating an atmosphere of collaboration and challenge

As a Residence Assistant (RA) at WISH, there is much more than just living in a dormitory of 11 floors and over 700 students.

From the moment that a student moves in, the RAs go through the move-in procedure carefully and introduce the dormitory, including a guided tour around the unit, the floor, and other shared facilities. With an RA in each of the four blocks that make up a floor, if there are any questions or problems regarding a student’s life in WISH, they are available to aid and support according to residents’ needs. For the many international students that reside at WISH, adjusting to a new country and communicating in a foreign language can be difficult at first. The RAs try to minimize those bumps and smoothen out that process by helping out with many things such as taking students from the dorm to the school via the trains, alien registration, and course registrations. Once everyone is settled in and gets adjusted to living at WISH, the RAs organize multiple events throughout the semester so that students can develop friendships and form a strong and healthy community.

Lastly, the RAs lead by example, showing open-mindedness, leadership, willingness to learn, and respect for the community, which helps cultivate an atmosphere of collaboration and challenge, nurturing the leaders of tomorrow.
