I think taking part in the SI Programs helps you build up your communication skills in particular. Here you can spend valuable time discussing things in English and talking face to face with businesspeople, experiences that you cannot get in ordinary university life.
I was hesitant at first to give my opinions, but I was inspired by the sight of others my age actively asserting their own ideas and inevitably began to speak out myself with a heightened awareness. I also picked up the habit of listening actively to other people’s opinions and considering them carefully during discussions.
Because there are so many students at Waseda International Student House (WISH), I can talk to different people each time. I learn something new each time, even when the program content is the same, so I participate a few times a week to try to discover more and more.
I believe the communication skills I have learned at this dormitory will be of great use when I go out into the world in the future.
