Submission of Written Oath

All researchers at Waseda University who participate in a research project funded by public research funding must, pursuant to article 5 of the Rules for Preventive Measures against Research Misconduct and the Investigation Procedures, comply with the rules concerning the use of public research funding and submit the university-designated written oath pledging to use the funds appropriately.

The staff member in charge of Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research will inform researchers eligible to receive a grant in the current year of the written oath submission procedure at the time of submission of grant application.

1. Types of public research funding requiring a written oath and submission deadlines

Public research funding*1 Submission deadlines
Competitive research funds
・Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research
・Strategic Basic Research Programs, etc.
The written oath must be submitted each year at whichever of the below occurs earliest (see *2 if the research project is conducted over multiple years):
・When the grant application is submitted
・Upon notification of eligibility
・Upon signing of the contract
・When making changes to research plans
If none of the above is applicable, the written oath must be submitted at the time of commencement of research.
Program for Strategic Research Foundation at Private Universities
In addition to the above funding, a written oath must be submitted for research funding (including contracted research and joint research) distributed by government institutions, incorporated administrative agencies, regional public organizations, and special administrative corporations, etc.
  • *1 All public research funding requires submission of a written oath. Please contact the Research Management Section if you are unsure if you should submit a written oath.
  • *2 Please follow the below instructions if the research funding will be provided over multiple years.
    ・A written oath must be submitted each year if the contract and other associated documents are signed each year throughout the period of funding.
    ・A written oath should only be submitted at the beginning of the first year if the contract and other associated documents are signed only at the beginning of the first year.

2. Individuals who must submit a written oath

Please submit the written oath in accordance with the below qualifications and requirements.

Part-time instructors
Research assistants and visiting research assistants
Researchers
Administrative staff
JSPS Research Fellowship for Young Scientists (including graduate school students)
Graduate school students that do not fall into any of the above categories Same as above Submission is not required.
Researchers of other universities and other institutions
(Researchers who are not bound by employment contracts with Waseda University or its research centers)
You are named as a research assistant or equivalent on a research plan and other associated documents of an application for public research funding that has a Waseda University researcher named as the head researcher. Submission is not required.
  • *When a Waseda University researcher participates in a research project as an assistant researcher headed by a researcher of another university or institution, the Waseda University research must submit a written oath.

3. Written oath format

Please submit the written oath formatted in the manner specified in the below chart after the written oaths have been collated by each research location and each research group to the respective faculty’s administrative office (accounting and administrative staff).

  • *When a Waseda University researcher participates in a research project as an assistant researcher headed by a researcher of another university or institution, the Waseda University research must submit a written oath.
