Available to any undergraduate student regardless of undergraduate school or year, the minor system enables undergraduates systematically and simultaneously to study an academic field in addition to their major.
Waseda University provides a diverse range of minors, enabling students to select minors addressing themes that match their interests.
Introduced in April 2018, the University-wide minor system enables students to (1) reinforce their major; (2) acquire a second academic strength outside their major; and (3) master fields in which they can apply and utilize their major, while at the same time providing opportunities to develop unique specialization. Students who have enrolled in minor courses and completed the minor requirements are issued with a certificate providing evidence of their achievement. Furthermore, the minor system enables students to acquire broad perspectives and form networks with students in other undergraduate schools. It is possible to have more than one minor.
The GEC encourages students to take advantage of the University-wide minor system to develop their unique capabilities, broaden their perspectives and contribute actively to society.
Minor programs are the various fields of study provided under the University-wide minor system. Minor programs are categorized into academic minor programs and interdisciplinary minor programs. Academic minor programs comprise programs within undergraduate schools for students from other undergraduate schools. Interdisciplinary minor programs are comprised of courses from several undergraduate schools. Interdisciplinary minor programs cover fields involving diverse academic interests, often reflecting contemporary issues or issues whose importance will likely increase.
