In recent years, advances in information and communication technologies, such as the Internet, have made it possible to obtain a wide variety and large amounts of data represented by text, voice, video, and so on. “Data Science”, which uses these data, is strongly demanded in various academic fields and society. Data Science is the study of using data to make rational and clear decisions and arguments. To achieve the desired decision-making, it is important to have the expertise in the fields that underlie the data. In short, Data Science demonstrates its power when merged with one’s own “fields of expertise”. Waseda University has prepared a curriculum for Data Science to enable students to “make use of Data Science in their own fields of expertise”. We encourage you all to study Data Science.

Certification Program in Data Science
You can study statistics and Data Science according to their expertise, interests, and concerns. You can learn from the basics while supplementing your mathematical knowledge. If you are unsure, you can receive either face-to-face or online instruction, making the course accessible to everyone!
Almost all lectures are available on-demand, so you can watch them repeatedly, 24 hours a day, whenever you like. Since courses are offered every semester, you can start learning in any semester you like.
We offer a range of subjects that enable you to learn step by step according to your level. Once you have mastered the concept and deepened your understanding, you can apply Data Science to your own academic field or may even aspire to become an expert in Data Science.
The Math and Stat Center offers in-person and online consultations for statistics and data science classes in general. If you have any questions, feel free to consult with one of our experienced LA (Learning Assistants).
The Data Science Certification System has four achievement goals: literacy level, beginner, intermediate, and advanced. You can obtain a certificate upon completing the requirements for each goal. The certificates are helpful in showing that you have studied data science in job hunting and other activities.
Data Science is not only about acquiring knowledge and skills but also about utilizing actual data. In addition to classes, you can hone your practical skills through internships at companies affiliated with the Data Science Center and through Data Science competitions.
The importance of “making arguments based on data” or “making decisions based on data” is increasing in various academic fields. Data Science is the study of data-based argumentation and decision-making. Hence, the Data Science Education Program offers a systematic approach to learning from the most basic and important concepts of Data Science to the most advanced techniques. You are encouraged to start with the “Introduction to Data Science” series, which provides a basic introduction to Data Science concepts. Each course is fully on-demand, so you can study at your own pace during the term.
