受賞コメント

I’m honored to receive the JACM Computational Mechanics Award. I wish to thank: a. my nominators; b. my collaborators, graduate students and postdocs contributing to the body of work for which I’m being recognized; and c. the JACM for choosing me as the award recipient. What makes this award even more special to me is the following. Prof. Tom Hughes, my former PhD adviser, began his collaboration with Japanese Computational Mechanics researchers in the late 70s/early 80s. Prof. Tayfun Tezduyar, my friend, mentor, and collaborator has carried the torch of working with Japanese Computational Mechanics researchers for several decades, and actively continues to do so to this day. Prof. JS Chen, also my friend, mentor, and former colleague at UC San Diego is another US faculty with strong ties to and ongoing collaborations with the Japanese Computational Mechanicians. Tom, Tayfun, and JS are all past recipients of the JACM Computational Mechanics Award. I’m deeply honored to be part of this group and also this tradition of US-Japan collaboration in Computational Mechanics. Working with Prof. Takizawa (also a past recipient of the JACM Computational Mechanics Award) and his group for the last 15 years has been a highly enriching activity for me; it’s an integral part of my research program and a significant contributor to this recognition.
