Application for Permission To Engage In Activity Other Than That Permitted Under The Status Of Residence Previously Granted

Holders of a Student visa are granted this status on the basis of staying in Japan for the purpose of studying or doing research at an institution of higher education. You must go to the Immigration Bureau to apply for a work permit with following documents. You cannot work without a work permit.

  1. Application form to engage in part-time work
  2. Residence Card
  3. Passport
  4. Student ID

Notice of engaging in part-time work

  1. Temporary work is permitted within the framework of 28 hours per week, and 8 hours per day during vacation but the max is 40 hours per week. *If you engage in work without permission or are employed beyond the permitted length of hours and/or permitted type of employment,you will be penalized (removed from employment, fined or jailed).
  2. In the case of doing TA or RA, you don’t need to take the permission. *In the case of tutor service or assistance in university, you need to take the permission.
  3. Work permit is expired when period of stay is finished. Please take procedure to extend period of stay early.
  4. If you change your residence status, you can”t work with the present permission of temporary work. Please apply for it again.
