On December 14, 2025, we participated in “The 15th Minna no Kagaku Hiroba (Science Plaza for Everyone) in Karatsu,” held at the Karatsu City Cultural and Gymnasium.

This one-day science outreach event brought together approximately 20 hands-on booths from junior high schools, high schools, universities, and companies, offering visitors of all ages an opportunity to experience the fun and excitement of science and technology.

IPS presented a booth titled “Let’s Think About Smart Contact Lenses,” led by Takeo Miyake, Professor at IPS.

Smart contact lenses are expected to play a key role in future technologies such as augmented reality (AR) for visual enhancement and health monitoring related to eye diseases and vision loss.
In this exhibition, visitors were introduced to the basic principles of wireless power transfer and wireless communication, which are essential for future lens-type devices.

As a hands-on demonstration, a small receiver device with an LED was installed in the eye of a face-shaped plastic model.
When a wireless power transmitter was brought close to the model, the LED lit up without any physical connection, allowing visitors to visually experience how wireless power transfer works.

In addition, various prototype devices developed in the laboratory were displayed, creating opportunities for direct interaction and discussion with visitors about future research and technological development.

IPS will continue to engage in outreach activities like this to share the appeal of cutting-edge science and engineering with society.
