Research Themes and Objectives
Matsumaru Lab tackles leading-edge problems in bio-robotics and human–mechatronics, turning the latest scientific ideas into robotic systems that improve everyday life.

Ongoing Research Projects
Current projects span hand-gesture recognition, deep-fake face detection, human action and identity recognition, and robotic shaping of deformable objects. Students are encouraged to pursue topics that match their interests and skills; when challenges arise, senior members and the supervisor are ready to help.
Research Guidance and Support
Professor Matsumaru is an excellent supervisor who not only has sufficient experience in providing research guidance, but also provides good guidance in academic writing for students who want to publish academic papers. Each week in the lab meeting, every student presents recent progress and any difficulties. Since our laboratory has many students with different backgrounds and majors in different fields, everyone can get a lot of useful advice and help from professors and senior students. Additional guidance is always available through one-on-one sessions with the professor or informal discussions with lab members.

International Collaboration and Research Facilities
International collaboration is another hallmark: we maintain strong ties with Warsaw University of Technology and also cooperate with the Indian Institute of Technology. Exchange visits and internships are therefore possible. The lab is well equipped with six-DoF manipulator arms, high-resolution RGB-D cameras, and GPU servers for deep-learning researches. New hardware can be purchased once a clear research need is explained.
Daily Life and Community
Life in the lab is well-balanced by regular sports, trips and social events that build a supportive community. If you want to push the frontiers of human-centered robotics in a truly international setting, Matsumaru Lab would be delighted to welcome you.
