I belong to the Thin Film Functional Materials Laboratory, which is a relatively new laboratory established in 2022.
Our research aims to improve the physical properties of thin-film materials and to develop new physical properties and new functional devices by combining multiple thin-film layers.
The main focus of our research is on carbon-based materials such as diamond and graphene. We are actively engaged in the development of high-power devices using diamond semiconductors, as well as novel brain function-mimicking materials and devices (AI electronics) using diamond/graphene junctions.
Recently, the laboratory has succeeded in fabricating diamond semiconductor power devices that can operate at very high temperatures and in developing brain mimic diamond/graphene optical memory devices that selectively acquire only important information. I am working on the development of image (character) recognition AI devices using the latter diamond/graphene junctions. Every day, I am struggling with various measurement devices and film deposition equipment while doing my research.
The lab has just started up, so the number of members is small, but we have a friendly atmosphere where we can casually talk with professors and seniors. There are still many things that I am not used to, and I’m busy with lectures, experiments, and laboratory seminars every day, but I am enjoying my research.
