17th International collaboration Symposium on IPS, 16-17th November 2023

Summary

The 17th International collaborative Symposium on Information, Production and Systems (ISIPS 2023) was held at IPS from Thursday 16th to Friday 17th November 2023. This year, the Workshop on Next-generation technology for AI application strategic industries, MASR (Mobility, AI, Semiconductor, and Robot) 2023, co-hosted by Korea University and Waseda University IPS, was also held at the same time. Due to the expansion of COVID-19 infection, the format from 2020 was a hybrid of face-to-face participation and remote participation via Zoom, but this year, for the first time in four years, the symposium was held in a face-to-face format at the venue.

There were 278 participants of teachers, researchers and students from 12 universities of overseas (China, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Germany) and 2 universities including IPS, 1 institute of technology and 3 institutes from Japan. They presented their leading edge research outputs, outcome of collaborated research project, and exchanged hot discussion among participants.

Morning sessions on both days were held in the main hall of the conference center in Kitakyushu Science and Research Park.

In the morning of the first day, the opening address was given by Prof. Fujimura, Dean of IPS, followed by a keynote speech by Prof. Hee-Hyol LEE of IPS and an invited lecture by Prof. Minyi GUO of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The morning of the second day featured a keynote speech by Professor Madoka TAKAI of the University of Tokyo and an invited lecture by Professor Ryan Po-Chun CHEN of National Taipei University of Science and Technology. In addition, a Waseda-Kitakyushu Consortium session was set up as an industry-academia collaboration project, with lectures by Mr. Taku MIURA of IBM Japan Digital Services Corporation and Ms. Junko KOMORITA of Zm’ken Service Co. Ltd..

In the afternoons of both days, research presentations were held in parallel session format at the IPS building. The 39 and 17 papers were presented for ISIPS 2023 and MASR 2023, respectively.

At the closing ceremony held after finishing sessions on the second day, awards were presented for the best presentation in each session and some encouragement.
