Professor Ikenaga had been undertaking research on the design and test methodologies for high performance ASICs, a real-time MPEG2 encoder chip set, and a highly parallel LSI and system design for image-understanding processing since 1990. His current interests are application SoCs for image, security, and network processing. In particular, he engages in the research on H.264 encoder LSI, JPEG2000 codec LSI, LDPC decoder LSI, UWB wireless communication LSI, public key encryption LSI, object recognition LSI, etc.
Any research topic related to image/video processing is welcome in our lab. Recently, video compression and computer vision are two major research directions in our lab. Video compression is focus on High efficiency video coding (HEVC) and its extension. Computer vision mainly includes object recognition and tracking. Many topics are involved on the basis of video compression and computer vision. Recently, our lab is cooperated with Graduate School of Sport Sciences of Waseda University on tracking and analyzing athletes’ movement. With this cooperation, we are determined to make an effort to contribute the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Our lab has one PhD student and 12 master students. Communicated with English, Japanese and Chinese, we have a harmonious atmosphere in our lab. There are two kinds of seminar: Weekly seminar and open seminar. Weekly seminar is held on every Monday. Each member will share his or her weekly process. Professor Ikenaga will guide every member personally. Every Wednesdays, two members will conclude recent work and make a proposal for future work. Open seminar is rather formula, that it has the same request as final presentation. Our members improve the presentation skills a lot by open seminars.
Bounenkai, welcome party, graduation party… We have colorful group activities. And Every September, Professor Ikenaga will invite all students to his house to have a BBQ party. For people who want to have fun in research, welcome to join Ikenaga lab.
