要旨Abstract
The internet and the far-right share a longstanding, intimate history. This seminar traces that relationship across three parts (internet, social and political), offering students a glimpse into the wide range of activities the broadly defined far-right undertakes online and the real-world consequences that follow. Part one examines the emergence of alternative social media platforms built specifically for far-right communities. Part two explores how distinct subcultures and ontologies take shape within these spaces, drawing on two case studies: the far-right appropriation of Japanese anime and a conspiracy-oriented Wikipedia site. Part three considers how conspiratorial movements can evolve into mainstream political parties, using Sanseitō’s YouTube channel as a case in point. The session is designed as a discussion, with students expected to engage actively, ask questions, and have their own ideas challenged along the way.
