A Modern, Leading University that Encourages Collaborative Interdisciplinary Study

Having arrived in Japan in 2022 to begin my studies at the School of Political Science and Economics (SPSE) at Waseda University, I was eager to join the diverse group of international students in the English Degree Programme. I was also excited to work with distinguished professors who have experience from some of the best universities and institutions in the world.

Access to Multidisciplinary Courses and Diverse Student Base

Over the past two years, my expectations have been exceeded. Even as a political science major, having access to economics courses in SPSE has allowed me to develop a broader skill set, with courses such as Game Theory and other theoretical models that have significantly enhanced my understanding of politics. The presence of so many international students has been invaluable, as I have been able to discuss with friends who have lived under the authoritarian regimes we study in class or who have firsthand experience with the impacts of various economic policies. This diverse environment has enriched my academic experience by exposing me to multiple perspectives, thanks to the wide representation of nationalities, races, and ethnicities on campus.

World Class Faculty and Research

I have also been impressed by the faculty at Waseda University. Many of the professors are leading experts in their fields, employing innovative research methods and introducing these techniques to students through unique pedagogical approaches. The professors have been exceptionally supportive, offering their insights during office hours and providing feedback on my numerous questions and drafts. My research interests lie in International Relations, a constantly evolving area of political science. I have had the privilege of working closely with professors by taking up a research assistant position, further enhancing my learning and research experience in the field.

The mixture of interactive classes, seminar sessions, with supportive faculty and diverse students has made coming to Waseda a choice I do not regret.
