◆Certificates are issued in either Japanese or English.
◆Certificates are issued under the surname used at the time of registration.(As a rule, this can not be changed )

(*3). From 2019 the initial letters of the language in which the course was taken (for example, “[J]” for Japanese, “[E]” for English) will be attached to the end of the English name of all courses except language courses on English transcripts. Please refer to the written explanation, which can be downloaded here.
It takes about 10 minutes to issue certificates under normal conditions, but you may have to wait when our office is crowded. Please come to our office in plenty of time.

If your surname has changed as a result of marriage etc., please show one of the above in addition to bringing a copy of the official family register.[copies acceptable]
As a rule, certificates are issued under the name registered while you were enrolled in SPSE.
In case of issuing English certificates, it is recommended to bring your ID which states your name in English to confirm the spelling of your name.
Notes
◆ In some cases such as system maintenance, we cannot issue certificates on the day.
◆ Some certificates of school credits earned for bar examination, profession of teaching and so on take approximately one week to be issued.
◆ Since the Social Security and Tax Number System has begun in October 2015,
please use identification document without My Number when you apply for certificates.
If your identification document has My Number, please blot out the number with a black pen.
From the aspect of the privacy protection, Waseda University do not accept any applications from other than our students/graduates; however, university accepts applications by proxy person for unavailable reasons.
In this case, a proxy needs to bring the followings (Required documents from you, please refer to Application at Waseda Portal Office or the SPSE Office);
1. Original copy of a proxy form with applicant’s signature and seal. (Proxy Form)
2. A Copy of proxy’s ID (Passport, Driver’s License, Insurance Card etc.)

4. Self-adressed envelope
*Please write your name and mailing address and put stamps on Self-adressed envelope.
If you want certificate(s) to be sealed, please provide a self-adressed envelope of A4 size as we will need to place the sealed envelope inside.

Please ask your proxy living in Japan to send handling fee by postal money order(定額小為替) and also send stamps for return postage. * Please do not fill in both sides of the postal money order(定額小為替).
If you cannot ask your proxy living in Japan to do that, please purchase an International Postal Money Order for the total amount of the handling fee and postage with your certificate request. (Bank check is not acceptable.)
Please send a generous amount of International Postal Money Order, because total amount of International Postal Money Order changes by exchange rates.
If the total amount of International Postal Money Order, which may change depending on exchange rate, exceeds total issuance fees, the excess will be returned to you in the form of Japanese postage stamps or International Reply Coupon.

We use EMS to send certificates to ensure their safe arrival.
Please note that we do not send items by regular mail service.
