Making Life-Long Friends Worldwide
I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad at University College London (UCL) and I am very grateful for this precious experience. It was my first time travelling and living outside of Asia, so every aspect of this journey was completely new to me.
Living in student accommodation, I met international students from different countries and backgrounds. Initially, I was apprehensive about interacting with people from outside my country, but stepping out of my comfort zone allowed me to form meaningful friendships. The frequent dorm events fostered a strong sense of community, helping me build lasting connections.
Exploring Diverse Subjects and Career Opportunities
At UCL, I enjoyed the freedom to choose my courses, which enriched my academic experience. Weekly seminar sessions for each class allowed for in-depth discussion and problem-solving, which enhanced my understanding of the subjects. Although my major is Global Political Economy, I also took fascinating and informative courses on commerce and finance. These courses broadened my knowledge and were instrumental in shaping my academic journey. I remember one of my most special assignments, which was to help an airline come up with a digital transformation strategy and create a website for it.
In addition, UCL offered numerous career opportunities through events such as panel discussions and case competitions, which allowed me to explore potential career paths. These experiences were invaluable in helping me to envision my future and consider different career options.
Travel and Learn: My European Adventures
Beyond academics, I had the opportunity to travel around Europe, immersing myself in different cultures and cuisines while learning about the rich history behind them. My European friends also graciously invited me to visit their hometowns, giving me a unique and personal perspective of their countries.
Overall, I feel incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to study abroad. It has been a transformative experience that has broadened my horizons academically, culturally and personally.
