Method of Contact in Case of an Emergency

Waseda University will make emergency announcements through
the Emergency Communication System, as outlined below.

The same information can be accessed via the following channels.

Absence from class

Please refer to the Guidelines and Support Anywhere for the detailed information on how class absences are handled and the criteria for requesting consideration. For further information on infectious diseases that should be prevented at school, including how many days to suspend attendance as determined by the university, please check the Health Support Center’s website.

You will be suspended from attending classes. However, you may take online classes if you are asymptomatic or have a minor illness and only if you are diagnosed that you can do so as well as you confirm it by yourself.

You can download the format below.

After you are grated a permission  to come to school or after the suspension period is over, you may request to your instructor for giving consideration of your absence. “Certificate of recovery from Infectious Disease” or medical certificate (indicating the person affected, the name of the infectious disease, etc.) must be attached when submitting “Notification of Absence due to Quarantine for Infectious Diseases”. Medical expenses statement is not enough as a ceritificate. Please confirm whether or not a medical certificate can be issued when visiting a medical institution.

Ask your doctor who to fill out the “Certificate of recovery from Infectious Disease form(学校における感染症治癒証明書)” and attach it to the application.Regarding the COVID-19 and influenza(except for specified avian influenza), it is not necessary to submit “Certificate of Recovery from Infectious Disease” after the period of suspension from classes. Therefore, students may submit proof of illness (medical certificate, etc.) as an attached document. The name of infectious disease and the quarantine period should be confirmable from the document.

After completing the application, the FLAS office will review and confirm the contents and provide you with a document entitled “Special Consideration Request for Absence due to Quarantine for Infectious Diseases”. You may request consideration of your absence by submitting the document to the instructor in charge of each course.

In case of suspicion of infectious disease

Please refer to the “Guidelines When Students Are Diagnosed with Novel Coronavirus Disease.pdf  (updated on May 8, 2023)”. Please see your doctor as soon as possible for a decision on whether or not you can attend school. If you need to be absent from classes due to this reason, please explain your situation to the instructor of each course via “Message My Teacher” on WasedaMoodle etc.

How to contact the course instructor

In cases requiring absence from classes, explain the situation to the teacher in charge of each subject via “Message My Teacher” on WasedaMoodle, etc., and ask for instructions.
Moodle Manual “3. Messages”

A note on sending a message

If you don’t write the name of the course, the instructor won’t know which course you are taking. Try to send a message in the following format
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Course name: ●●●●●
Student ID number: ■■■■
main body (of a text)
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

The final decision on the treatment of absences will be made by the instructor in charge of each course.
