At the Sapporo International Art Festival 2024, themed “Last Snow,” held between January 20 to February 25, Professor Dvorak curated the work “Rise: From One Island to Another” at the Future Theater venue, also presenting his in-depth historical research in a dedicated vestibule within the exhibition. This portion of the biennial, which spotlighted the collaborative work of Kathy Jetñil-Kijiner and Aka Niviâna, drew connections between melting ice caps and rising oceans, as well as shared environmental displacement and colonial impacts between Ainu and Marshall Islanders. Dvorak’s work contributed to the festival’s dialogue on historical and environmental themes in relation to the intersections of art, technology, and science. The festival attracted tens of thousands of visitors from Japan and abroad.
