A graduate of the prestigious Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) de Saint-Cloud (France), Agrégé de lettres modernes, PhD and Habilitation in Linguistics, now Emeritus Professor of Linguistics at Sorbonne Nouvelle University (Paris, France), Professor Jean-Louis CHISS, who has widely published in applied linguistics and supervised many PhD dissertations as well as Habilitations, was invited to Japan by Professor DETEY (SILS & GSICCS, Waseda University) and Emeritus Professor Yuji KAWAGUCHI (TUFS) thanks to the financial support of the JSPS : Grant-in-Aid (B) n°20H01291 (Prof. Sylvain Detey, Waseda University) and Grant-in-Aid (B) n° 20H01279 (Prof. Yuji Kawaguchi, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies).
During his stay in Japan, Professor Chiss delivered three presentations:
- One at the Institut Français in Tokyo, co-organized with the French Embassy in Japan, about French language teachers’ training and foreign language education.
- One in Aoyama Gakuin University, co-organized with Prof. Nori Kondo from Aoyama Gakuin University about Francophonie.
Many students, teachers and researchers from different institutions attended and benefited from these events.
Professor Chiss also participated in several Kaken-related research meetings and workshops and discussed with different scholars from Japan and members of the French Embassy cultural division.
