The 22nd Korea-Japan Millennium Forum was held over two days on October 13 and 14, 2026.

The Korea-Japan Millennium Forum brings together university presidents, international affairs executives, researchers, and students from four leading private universities in Korea and Japan—Korea University, Yonsei University, Keio University, and Waseda University—with the aim of promoting academic and research exchange while further strengthening cooperation between educational institutions in the two countries. Since Waseda University held the inaugural forum in 2002, the four universities have taken turns hosting it each year, with Yonsei University serving as this year’s host.

This year’s theme was “Preparing Universities for the Post-AI Era: What to Transform, What to Preserve.” In the Presidents’ Session, participants exchanged views on the mission and future direction of universities in a society shaped by AI. Lively discussions also took place in the Students’ Session, which explored how the generation growing up with AI thinks, creates, and learns, and in the Researchers’ Session, which addressed the transformation and continuity of education in the AI era as well as the curiosity, rigor, and originality required in research.

The forum also marked the first overseas inter-university exchange for Waseda President Takayuki Homma and Senior Executive Vice President Shuichi Furuya since they took office on September 21. It thus provided a valuable opportunity to build relationships with the presidents and executives of the other universities and to further develop collaboration and cooperation among the four institutions.

The Korea-Japan Millennium Forum serves as a valuable opportunity for the four universities to learn from one another and to reflect together on the future of higher education. It is hoped that this year’s discussions will further enrich academic exchange between the two countries and serve as an occasion to reexamine the role universities should play in society.
