Introducing Our International Alumni Network: The Beijing Tomonkai

The Beijing Tomonkai

Established in the 1980s, the Beijing Tomonkai continues to hold gatherings every two months. It’s a strong example of a Waseda alumni group actively fostering community overseas through their shared ties to the University. The group was recently featured in Waseda Gakuho, a bimonthly magazine published by the Waseda University Alumni Association (WUAA). For the English version featuring comments from the chairperson, vice chairperson, and members, along with details about the Beijing Tomonkai, visit the WUAA website here.

Waseda University deeply values our alumni as important members of the Waseda community, and we are known for having produced many changemakers throughout our history, including eight prime ministers and many leaders in business, science and technology, literature, sports, and film. As we approach our 150th anniversary in 2032, Waseda is re-connecting with our alumni and sharing with them news of the exciting new projects we have on the horizon through Waseda’s Vision 150, our strategic plan to establish Waseda University as a leading global university by 2032 and beyond.

To do this, we are working closely with the WUAA. Established in 1885, the WUAA is a vast organization of alumni that supports the University and current students, helps alumni stay in touch, and builds strong connections with more than 600,000 Waseda alumni in Japan and around the globe. There are currently around 70 overseas “Tomonkai” or alumni organizations who welcome both new members and visitors!
