Conferral of honorary doctoral degrees from Korea University

On May 5, 2024, President Aiji Tanaka and Mikio Sasaki (‘60, School of Science and Engineering 1, Industrial Engineering and Management and Chairman of the Japan-Korea Economic Association) were awarded honorary doctoral degrees at the Korea University Centennial Memorial Samsung Hall.
The conferral of the honorary doctoral degree is a testament to President Tanaka’s remarkable academic and research achievements as well as his role in actively promoting academic and research activities between Korea University and Waseda University.
In his formal address to an audience of Korea University faculty, staff, and students, President Tanaka recounted the history of the partnership while reflecting on the accomplishments the universities achieved through the partnership, including the exceptional talent that the universities nurtured together as well as the realization of strategic partnerships across many joint efforts including double degree programs, the CAMPUS Asia program, and the Japan-Korea Millennium Forum.
He also described the cooperation between the two universities in the area of athletics, as well as the friendship agreement concluded between the Waseda Alumni Association and the Korea University Alumni Association, which resulted in an active partnership between the two associations including annual reciprocal visits that continue to this day.
Korea University and Waseda University have cultivated a close relationship since the conclusion of the academic exchange partnership agreement in 1973. We look forward to further strengthening the partnership in order to contribute to the peace and well-being of the world.
