On November 1, President Aiji Tanaka attended the Global Advisory Board (GAB) inaugural meeting at the School of Public Policy and Management (SPPM), Tsinghua University.

Established in 2000, SPPM is committed to not only train future generations of scholars and practitioners in public affairs with global vision and strong commitment but also constitute a forum where critical challenges may be discussed, innovative ideas and wisdoms may be shared, and dialogues and collaborations may be fostered between China and the world to achieve lasting peace, prosperity, equity, and sustainability of the human kind.

GAB of SPPM, a group of prominent domestic and world leaders in global public affairs as well as world-renowned scholars and educators, is to provide strategic consultation on the direction of Tsinghua SPPM, enhance its global profile and promote the work of the school at the global stage. President Tanaka is the only member appointed amongthe higher education institutions of Japan.

Waseda and Tsinghua signed their first academic agreement in 1996. Since then, numerous agreements have been concluded to promote various bilateral initiatives such as conducting faculty and student exchange, sharing of academic resources and holding of joint academic symposia. The two universities also signed anagreement to strengthenthe academic cooperation in September2019, upon President Qiu Yong’s visit to Waseda.
