Waseda forms Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with University of Tehran

On October 6, 2015, Waseda University established a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Tehran. This marks the first MOU between Waseda and an Iranian university. President of the University of Tehran, Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi, and representative from the Political Section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Koukab Faez, attended the signing ceremony and exchanged firm handshakes with Waseda President Kamata.
Waseda has welcomed many Iranian international students and researchers over the years. Waseda is also home to the Organization for Islamic Area Studies (Dean Keiko Sakurai), Japan’s most respected research center for Islamic studies. This MOU will further solidify exchange between both universities.
At the signing ceremony, both universities agreed to pursue focused collaborations in education and research.
“Iran and Japan have a long-standing relationship. I am incredibly happy to form the first cooperative agreement between Waseda and an Iranian university. Using this agreement, I hope to pursue focused collaboration in education and research,” said President Kamata at the signing ceremony.
University of Tehran President Mahmoud Nili Ahmadabadi said, “I studied abroad at Tohoku University for four years and understand the brilliance of Japanese culture, science, and technology. Yesterday, the Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology, Mohammad Farhadi, and Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Hakubun Shimomura, formed a cooperation agreement between both countries in the fields of education and technology. I am very happy to take this opportunity to form a cooperation agreement with Waseda University.”

Waseda has formed agreements with universities from around the world in order to promote international exchange in education and research. Waseda is part of a global consortium of universities and proactively promotes exchange between partner universities.
