Waseda Weekly publishes a variety of articles, including "Focus," which features various on-campus systems, facilities, events, and points to be aware of, "People," which introduces students who are active both on and off campus, as well as articles about classes and Professor, alumni and student club active in various fields, and topics ranging from studying abroad to everyday concerns.
We have also introduced a Waseda University student reader monitor system, where articles are evaluated every week. Each article is rated from 1 to 5 stars, and we receive feedback, both good and bad, which we use to create better articles. This time, we will introduce the articles published between May 7th and May 31st, 2024, in order of the highest ratings from the reader monitors, along with the actual comments they received!
1. [Special Issue] We asked philosophers the real questions of university students! (Published on May 20, 2024)
I was moved by about 100 stars. I am a social science student, and in my classes, the phrase "Find a good question" often comes up. This phrase was also in the entrance exam pamphlet, and it made my heart tremble at the time, but what is a good question? I entered my second year without finding an answer in my mind. However, after reading this article, I felt that all the things I have been wondering about on a daily basis, including good questions, suddenly made sense. Thank you. Many people ask what the point of philosophy is, but I felt that philosophy is the foundation of human society. I also liked Hankichi's illustrations. I'm sorry if it's already been done, but I thought it would be interesting to have a video that shows that such trivial talk is actually philosophy. I thought that if the people in this illustration, and sometimes people and animals, appeared and everyone discussed (both adults and children), more people would think more deeply and be able to take responsibility for their actions (2nd year School of Social Sciences)
Up until high school, I had some kind of "goal" and was "working hard" to get there, or in other words, I was just "running on the rails that were laid out for me." But after entering university, I had to think backwards and rethink my "goal," and I was happy to hear a story that supported this philosophical thinking. (2nd year School of Education)
We asked philosophers about the real questions that college students have!
2. [My Waseda Cuisine] Enjoy "Mom's Cooking" in Waseda! A beloved cafe that continues to be a place of relaxation (Published May 24, 2024)
Seeing this makes me want to eat it! I'm a Tokorozawa campus resident, so when I visit the main campus, I want to try all sorts of Waseda cuisine. Also, since I live alone, I sometimes miss the taste of home cooking. (1st year, School of Human Sciences)
My mother used to buy the Okuma Shige-no Boro and Natsume Sose Cake from this shop when I was taking my entrance exams, and I have fond memories of eating them on the day of my exams. As a university student, I tend to eat out more and my nutritional balance tends to be unbalanced, so healthy menus are very helpful (1st year School of Human Sciences)

3. [Focus] Let's go to the championship game between Waseda and Keio! Cheering on the Waseda University baseball team at a packed Jingu Stadium (Published on May 27, 2024)
I was surprised at the breadth of work involved in being a manager. I was surprised to see that everyone who wanted to be a manager in the baseball club, regardless of the type of entrance exam, would end up doing the same work at first (4th year, School of Fundamental Science and Engineering)
The article covered the hot topic of the Waseda-Keio game, and I was very excited to read it. Of course I root for my university, Waseda, but in this interview, I was able to see how Inde and Yoshino's strong feelings as team leaders and how they respect each other, which made me want to root for them even more. I also learned about how the managers support the team, and I would like to pay more attention to those managers as well. I think this article will connect to the unity of Waseda students (3rd year, School of Commerce)
4. [Focus] Why go to graduate school? Learn about the realities of three graduate students and think about it (Published on May 13, 2024)
There is a strong image that people who go on to graduate school are those in the sciences, and I don't know many people who do, so I thought it was interesting. They were digging deep into their research, and the content was all very interesting. There are people around me who joke about going to graduate school, but I learned how serious people are about going. (3rd year School of Culture, Media and Society Society)
I found all three of them very interesting to read. I especially found Yuna Kawamoto's story very helpful, as we were in similar circumstances. I was also a student who was recommended, so I'm struggling every day to think about how to close the gap, but I was able to learn about the areas where she is making steady progress, which was very helpful (2nd year student, School of Social Sciences)

5. [Information] Must-see for Waseda applicants! Learn about the appeal of Waseda and the secret to passing (Published on May 29, 2024)
Even now, after enrolling, many parts of the article resonated with me. I was able to reaffirm the appeal of Waseda and, conversely, reexamine my own actions. I analyzed that because Waseda is full of diversity, with sufficient facilities, an environment, famous professors and their classes, it is necessary to establish a strong sense of self while being influenced by others and take meaningful action every day toward one's goals (3rd year School of Law).
I also think that Waseda is interesting because of the variety of people there are. Up until high school, there were many people with the same values and behavioral styles, but since entering Waseda, I've met many people with unexpected special skills and strong personalities, and I'm inspired every day. However, I think what all these people have in common is that they're all good at time management and live fulfilling lives every day (4th year, School of Advanced Science and Engineering)
