【Sign Up Period: Sep 1 – Sep 28】 Let’s try making Japanese traditional art “Wagashi” and understand the world of Japanese sweets! (Oct 1)

Poster

“Wagashi” is the traditional Japanese art which is said to allow you to enjoy all 4 seasons with all 5 of your senses. It developed along with the spread of tea culture in the Kamakura period, and during the Edo period, as Kyoto’s “Kyogashi” and Edo’s “Jyogashi” vied with each other, new “Wagashi” were made one after another with unique designs full of ingenuity and style. Now at the ICC we have invited an expert from Waseda-seimon Street’s Wagashi store “Nanarica” to host a Wagashi making class! You will be taught professionally how to make Wagashi step by step, so beginners will be able to easily make their own sweets too! So if you want to know more about Japanese traditional culture, more about Wagashi, want to make some new friends, or if you just have a sweet tooth! Come and join us! You can enjoy the Wagashi that you make while talking with other participants during our cafe time afterwards. We’re waiting for your application!

★Kouyou no Nerikiri
White bean paste, is added to ground Japanese Yam, sugar, rice granules, and other ingredients to create “Nerikiri Bean Paste” (white bean paste) as a base. This base sweet can then be shaped into different forms depending on the season, since it is autumn this time we will make a reddish brown leaf motif to suit the season.
