Have you ever seen a traditional Japanese performing art show?
There are many traditional Japanese performing arts in Japan, such as Wadaiko (Japanese taiko drums), shamisen, yosakoi, Noh, etc., but it may be rare to have a chance to experience them live.
This time, we will invite Waseda University’s yosakoi circle “Tokyo Hanabi” and wadaiko circle “Sakigake Hibiki” to put on a show on campus!
In addition to this event-exclusive collaboration performance of Yosakoi and wadaiko, a few participants will also have the chance to try playing the drums themselves!
Tokyo Hanabi performs a spectacular yosakoi, a traditional dance that originated in Kochi, and Sakigake Hibiki impresses with its powerful drums, music and call and response yells. Don’t miss their stunning performances!

Cooperation
Waseda University’s yosakoi circle “Tokyo Hanabi”
A Kochi-style yosakoi dance team with about 150 student members in total. There are both male and female dances, and the power and elegance of the performance is one of its charms. We also use matoi banners in our performances, which is rare for a student yosakoi team.
Waseda University’s wadaiko circle “Sakigake Hibiki”
We are the only officially recognized taiko club at Waseda University, with about 45 members. The resonant sound of our wadaiko drums and the unity born from our close friendships are our strengthscharm. With expressive faces and spirited shouts, we deliver powerful energy to the entire venue. Please come and watch our lively performance!
