Feel the world of Kabuki Discover the timeless art (2024)

Poster

Would you like to experience the timeless art of Kabuki?

ICC is hosting an event that explores the captivating world of kabuki, a traditional Japanese art form that has fascinated audiences for generations with its vibrant performances and powerful expressions.

We are honored to welcomekabuki actor and Waseda graduate Ichimura Takematsu, who will share insights through a presentation and video of an upcoming “Arashi no Yoru ni” performance at the Kabukiza Theatre in December.

You will also have the chance to try striking a “mie” pose (a signature pose in kabuki) and handle the tools and props used in kabuki.

For those interested in Japanese culture, kabuki specifically, or making new friends, this is a great opportunity – No kabuki knowledge is needed!

Mr.  Takematsu Ichimura, VI (Tachibana-ya)

Kabuki actor. Born 1990 in Tokyo as the elder son of Manjiro Ichimura II and grandson of Uzaemon Ichimura XVII, who was a National Living Treasure. Takematsu made his debut on Nov. 1994 at Kabuki-za, as Kosaburo in “Moritsuna-jinya” and succeeded to Takematsu Ichimura VI. He is a 2013 graduate of Waseda University, School of International Liberal Studies, mainly studying international relations and linguistics.

Takematsu started to take part in “Kabuki for Everyone” project in 2002, a project started by Manjiro in 1992 to introduce kabuki and Japanese culture to both domestic and international audiences. Takematsu’s involvement started from the performance held in Hong Kong in 2002, part of a commemorative event for the 30th anniversary of Sino-Japanese relations. Takematsu then participated in various events in Tokyo, introducing kabuki and Japanese culture to local people and tourists visiting Japan.
