Have you ever been to Yokohama?

Yokohama is a historic port city full of charm and atmosphere.

Once a small fishing village, it has grown into an international city since its opening in 1859, serving as the “gateway to Edo” and accumulating a rich history connected to the wider world.

On this ICC Yokohama Field Trip, we’ll explore the city and its history together in a fun way!

We’ll start by visiting Hikawa Maru, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property moored at Yamashita Park. You’ll be amazed by the ship’s historical presence and impressive size!

After that, we’ll split into groups for a walking tour ending at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, where you can enjoy a photo activity and get to know each other along the way. Enjoy street food while strolling through Yokohama Chinatown, or visit the Yokohama Three Towers—known as Jack, King, and Queen—which are said to grant your wish if you see all three in a single day. Take part in a fun photo activity where you capture themed shots and interact with everyone!

This trip is perfect for those who:

・Want to explore Yokohama

・Love history

・Want to make friends in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere

Everyone is welcome! We look forward to your applications!

Place

NYK Hikawa Maru

Built in 1930 for the Seattle route, this passenger-cargo liner later served as a hospital ship during World War II. After the war, she returned to transpacific service. Retired in 1960, the vessel is now permanently moored at Yamashita Park and open to the public as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, preserving a valuable piece of maritime and industrial heritage.

Yokohama Chinatown

One of the largest Chinatowns in Japan, it developed after the opening of the Port of Yokohama in 1859 as a Chinese settlement. Today, more than 600 restaurants and shops line the streets, offering everything from authentic Chinese cuisine to street food and souvenirs. Colorful pailou gates and temples create a vibrant, exotic atmosphere that attracts visitors from around the world.

The Three Towers of Yokohama: King, Queen, Jack

Nicknamed by foreign sailors in the early Showa era after playing cards, these three historic buildings are known for their distinctive towers. The “King,” Kanagawa Prefectural Government Building, was designed in the Imperial Crown style and resembles a five-storied pagoda. The “Queen,” Yokohama Customs House, is distinguished by its exotic dome inspired by Islamic architecture. The “Jack,” Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Hall, features a clock tower along with distinctive domes at its corners

Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse

A landmark of Yokohama, these historic brick buildings were constructed from the late Meiji to early Taisho period as model government warehouses. Today, they are a popular tourist destination with shops, restaurants, and event spaces. Visitors can enjoy panoramic night views of the harbor, including the Yokohama Bay Bridge and the Osanbashi Yokohama International Passenger Terminal, as well as the Minato Mirai skyline with the Yokohama Landmark Tower and the Ferris wheel Cosmo Clock 21.
