In 1983 civil war broke out in Sudan.
Tens of thousands of children were orphaned and lost their homes.
They became known as “The Lost Boys of Sudan”.
After escaping from Sudan and being brought up in a Kenyan refugee camp, the main characters of the film fortunately win a lottery for relocation to the United States.
As the lost boys are thrust into entirely new world of freedom in the United States, they and the American families tasked with looking after them confront countless challenges including culture shock.
What kind of drama is waiting for them?
This film is a work full of humour, drama and excitement, which evokes wonderful feelings of people growing and living together.
After the film screening, there will also be a short talk by Ms. Kazuko Fushimi from the Japan Association for Refugees (JAR). Ms. Fushimi works on the front line of refugee support here in Japan and will talk about the realities faced by refugees here.The refugee problem may seem to be something happening in far off lands, but actually it may be much closer than you think.
