*Certificates are not offered by e-mail or in digital formats. For certificates that can be applied for online, a download link for digital certificates (PDF data of the certificate) can be sent directly to employers, educational and research institutions, etc (from the afternoon of October 16, 2023).

You can request certificates online anytime of the day and receive them at convenience stores (Seven-Eleven, Family Mart, Lawson) throughout Japan.

*Some certificates cannot be requested using the online registration system. If you wish to apply for a certificate that you can apply for online and one that you cannot, you can apply for them together at the CJL office (or you can apply for them individually).

*1 For students affiliated with other schools: Please contact the your office for details. This certificatedwill be issued after payment of tuition fees.
*2 Please note that this cannot be issued during the semester. If you leave the school in the middle of a semester, we will not be able to issue the certificate.
ex: Attendance for Fall Semester 2024 → Can be issued after the February 28, 2025 grade release date.
*3 We recommend that you also prepare your transcripts and course registration certificates when submitting them to the Immigration Bureau, etc. for procedures related to your status of residence.

*1  As of September 2023, the issuance of Tuition payment certificates has been discontinued and Tuition payment receipts are issued instead.

If you use a JR line with a one-way business kilometer being 101 kilometers or more, you can present a Student Discount Certificate (Gakuwari) when purchasing a ticket at the ticket counter to get a discount. The student discount is also applicable to round-trip discount tickets.
Students of the Center for Japanese Language (except short-term program students) can apply for up to four Student Discount Certificates per day and up to ten per year. For the application procedure, please read the section “Certificates issued by online applications” above.
Student Discount Certificates are valid for 3 months from the date of issue.

A student discount certificate is not required when purchasing student commuter passes for JR lines, private railways, subways, and metropolitan buses etc. You can purchase it by presenting your student ID card at the nearest station.

If you need to reissue your student ID card due to loss, magnetic/IC failure, name change, or damage, you need to go through the procedure at the CJL office. It takes about one week from the time of application for reissuance.

Documents Required for Reissuance of Student ID card

• Report of loss of student ID card　EXAMPLE
• Application for Student ID Card
• Reissuance fee of 2,000 yen (free of charge only in the case of magnetic or IC failure, name change, or the first photo replacement during the enrollment period)

The Address label (for your student ID card) has your address printed on it. A student ID card with a valid address label on the back is required to purchase a commuter pass. If you need to have the address label reissued due to a change of address or damage, please apply for a reissue at the CJL office. If you need a reissue of the address label due to a change of address, please apply for a Change of Address Application first from MyWaseda.
