He also engages in practice-based research on learning and creative environments, including workshops. Dr. Chen’s area of expertise is higher education. Her research interests include the internationalization of higher education, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and quality assurance. She conducts research on international faculty, early-career researchers, female researchers, and international students. At CHES, she is a member of CHEIR and is involved in quality assurance–related activities, including institutional research (IR) and academic management support.

Dr. Mutoh’s area of expertise is the sociology of education. She investigates previously overlooked themes, such as research on the forms of “agency” sought by companies. Her research spans a wide range of settings, from high schools to universities and corporate organizations. At CHES, she is engaged in academic institutional research (IR) within CHEIR, where she analyzes patterns of “learning at Waseda University.”

Dr. Inoue specializes in higher education development, with expertise in faculty development (FD) and teaching and learning support. Her research focuses on learner-centered pedagogy, reflective teaching practices, and the design of effective faculty development programs. At CHES, she is responsible for FD initiatives and collaborates with faculty, students, and administrative staff to enhance the quality of higher education.

Dr. Abe’s areas of expertise are instructional design and second language education. Her research focuses on developing effective methods for course and learning design, as well as support strategies for these approaches. At CHES, she is primarily engaged in Faculty Development (FD) activities within CTLT.

Ms. Fujikawa’s areas of expertise are educational technology and the learning sciences. Her research focuses on effective methods for using Teaching Assistants (TAs) in active-learning classes and as well as on course design that incorporates TAs based on theories of the learning sciences. At CHES, she is responsible for faculty development (FD) activities and advanced TA training within CTLT.

Associate Professor Yoshizawa’s areas of expertise are science and technology policy and knowledge policy. He is broadly involved in the research and practice of methodologies, management and institutional frameworks for translating knowledge into social and public value, with a particular focus on responsible research and innovation (RRI). At CHES, he works within CCRE where he is responsible for research ethics education and for research, surveys, analysis and communication regarding research integrity.
