About the Center

Greetings

A place for chit-chat

Masao Arakawa, Director of Information, Production and System Research Center

Graduate School of Information, Production and Systems (IPS), Waseda University was established in the Kitakyushu Science and Research Park in Hibikino about 20 years ago. The Information, Production and Systems Research Center (IPSRC) was established there.

Here, we mainly conduct research activities through joint research between industry and government. In 2017, we opened the Waseda University-Kitakyushu Consortium, which serves as a place for interaction with the local community. Currently, the consortium is also starting a recurrent education project called Asian DX to promote DX in the region.

We, the faculty members of IPS, are also researchers at the center. Just as the Graduate School of Information, Production and Systems has three fields: Information Architecture, Production Systems, and Integrated Systems, the research center can handle a wide range of research fields, and we have a system in place to respond to local issues through consortiums.

I think the Consortium is a place for chit-chat. I want chit-chat to be a place where people can gather casually and talk about their complaints, dissatisfaction, and complaints about the current situation with anyone. There should be problems to be solved, and as teachers, we believe that there are seeds there for contributing to the community. Although we are a group of engineering professionals, being able to solve engineering problems means that we can respond to a wide range of approaches. We hope that more local companies and individuals will participate casually and that more issues will be gathered, allowing for more practical exchanges through projects such as joint research, internships, and PBL. We hope that the result will be a new place for recurrent education and reskilling. We ask for your continued cooperation.

Purpose of establishing the research center

Overseas collaboration

In order to further develop the education and research open to both domestic and international audiences that is being conducted at the adjacent Graduate School of Information, Production and Systems (IPS), and to deepen ties with universities and companies overseas, we have established an overseas collaboration department and are promoting a variety of projects.

Collaboration with companies

Kitakyushu City is currently planning to establish a car electronics research and development center within the Kitakyushu Science and Research Park, where the IPS Research Center is located. Three universities within the Science and Research Park, as well as automobile and auto parts manufacturers, will work together to promote human resource development and research and development related to automobiles. To cooperate with this project, an automobile-related department will be established and cooperation will be established with the Car Electronics Research and Development Center.

Connection with high schools

The Graduate School of Information, Production and Systems is currently developing a student training program and a mock lecture program to deepen educational ties with high schools in the Kyushu region. In order to allow high school students to learn about the appeal of science and engineering, we have established a high school collaboration department and will develop a campaign to deepen their understanding of Waseda University.

Joint research and contributions to the community

We will also conduct joint research with research institutes and companies both inside and outside the university, participate in large-scale national projects (Joint Research Division), and hold seminars on research results, training for corporate personnel, and public lectures (Social Contribution Division).
